Elementary Buddies (K and 3)

Kindergarten students are making friends and reading books.

In Deb Dunham’s Kindergarten class, students are meeting with older students to help them develop social skills AND learn.

“In my big buddy pictures, we met with Mrs. Vulgamott’s 3rd grade class,” Dunham said. “Big buddies is something that elementary teachers have been doing for years.”

She notes that not all teachers participate and that they are responsible for setting it up.

“We got together Friday, September 13th for our first time,” Dunham said. “We plan to do it every 2nd and 4th Friday, alternating which school we go to.”

She added that the groups mostly read together, though they also work on projects that her Kindergarten students may need help with.
