Squirrel Behavior

We had some slightly larger-than-normal squirrels at Pleasant View Elementary a few days ago.

On Monday, November 4, 2013, 1st Grade students in teacher Rachel Chamberlin’s class learned about the different kinds of squirrels and their ways of getting ready and surviving through the winter, thanks to the new FOSS curriculum.

“These are pictures of my little squirrels searching for food,” Chamberlin said. “They had a blast.”

Praying Mantis Fun

Students at Sunset Heights Elementary recently got to bring a little of the outdoors inside.

Teacher Rachael Hansen’s 2nd grade class found a praying mantis outside at the end of September, and the students wanted to learn more about them.

“We talked about finding books during the Daily 5 that interest us to read and write about,” Hansen said. “I chose many bug books, and our class explored and shared what they learned.”

Below is a short video of students sharing what they learned about the mantis, as well as some photos.

Pleasant View Field Day!

Fun, fun, fun! Oh, the life of an elementary student!

Pleasant View Elementary celebrated the end of the school year with a super fun field day today!

Kindergarten and 1st Grade students were able to have an outdoor picnic with school snack lunches. Then students got to dance and play games, with teams divided by teachers’ classes and each team wearing a different color.
